The mass of over 30 different metals and alloys are listed below. While the data is useful for design, individual samples will differ. Impurities will often have an influence. A 1000kg of pure water = 1 cubic metre. Pure water was chosen as the 'base line' for specific gravity and given the value of 1.

The density, or more precisely, the volumetric mass density, of a substance is its mass per unit volume. The symbol most often used for density is (the lower case Greek letter rho ), although the Latin letter D can also be used.
It is often necessary in designing a machine to know the weight of its parts, and any good engineer's handbook will give the weights per cubic inch of all the metals. Not all kinds of iron weigh exactly the same, since different processes of manufacture use different amounts of the materials of which it is made. The same thing is true of all metals, so only the approximate weight is given in
Pure iron has a density of 7,850 kg/m^3. That means if you had a cube one meter on a side, it would weigh 7,850 kilograms, which is more than 17,000 pounds or nearly 9 tons.
Step 2 Calculating the weight of the stone In this step you will be using the cubic feet you obtained from doing step 1 to calculate the approximate weight of the stone. You will need a calculator, pencil, and paper to do this. Now that you have your cubic feet written down all you need to
Mild steel has a density of .248 pounds per cubic inch. It melts at 2,570 degrees Fahrenheit. It has a specific heat of around .122 British Thermal Units (BTU) per pound, per cubic inch.
I have taken an average weight per cubic metre for a given substance and rounded it to the nearest 25 kilograms. The exception is the Metals table, since there is seldom much variation in weight between different batches of the same metal I have given the weight per cubic metre reasonably accurately.
About Iron; Iron weighs 7.874 gram per cubic centimeter or 7 874 kilogram per cubic meter, i.e. its density is equal to 7 874 kg/m179;. The density was measured at 20176;C (68176;F or 293.15K) at standard atmospheric pressure.
Width of 1 x Thickness of 1 x Length of 1 x .2836 = .2836 We use this formula to calculate the weight of an indidual steel plate. Works for a single inch as well

This is a measure of a woods weight in relation to a preset volume. Usually its pounds per cubic foot (lbs/ft 3), or in metric units kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m 3).However, a woods weight will also greatly depend on its moisture content (MC).
An introduction to density, specific gravity and specific weight formulas with examples. (U.S.) units for density are slugs/ft 3 but pound mass per cubic foot lb m /ft 3 is often used. Note that there is a difference between pound force The density of iron is 7850 kg/m 3.
The density is expressed in pounds per unit of volume, and the density of ductile iron is .255 lbs. per cubic inch. In the above example, the volume is 70.7 cubic inches, therefore, the bar weighs 0.255 x 70.7 in3 = 18.0285 lbs. If the bar were made out of steel having a density of 0.284 pounds per cubic inch, the bar would weigh
The weight of a cubic inch of steel is approximately 0.2904 pound. There are several different types of steel. Carbon steel is a steel alloy comprised mainly of iron and carbon.

Hello, different types of soil have different densities. Stiff clay density 1.746 tonnes per cubic metre. Difficult to dig. We needed to add lots of compost to improve our London clay soil. Loam soil density 1.330 tonnes per cubic metre. Easy to dig. So I would guess your soil could be somewhere between the two. Regards, James.
* Note that even if pounds per cubic foot is often used as a measure of density in the U.S., pounds are really a measure of force, not mass. Slugs are the correct measure of mass. You can divide pounds per cubic foot by 32.2 for a rough value in slugs.
